Thursday and Friday recap

Saturday, February 28th, 2009

Well everyone, it’s finally here.  As I write this it’s about 1:50 AM and I’ve just finished getting the Round One Update Video posted. If you missed the worship rally, you really missed something awesome. The music was awesome and the spirit of God fell in a really powerful way on the service. There were young people dancing in the altar and worshiping God with passion and sincerity that made a very big impact on me.  I’m too exhausted to write more right now, but check back tomorrow after I’ve had a chance to sleep! Check out the video update and check back here often over the next couple of days and weeks as we get more videos, pictures an audio posted!

It’s Been A While…

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Well…it’s been a while since I’ve written a blog. I’ve been busy. We’ve been working hard trying to tie up all the loose ends for the Stampede. We’re ordering the trophies today. They are gonna be pretty sweet. We have a special surprise for all of ya’ll that make the all tournament team, so get your study on!

If you didn’t get the email, we have an opportunity to have Bro Bobby Long come and be a quizmaster at the Stampede this year. We are trying to raise the money to get him here. So if you’re willing to donate, send an email or if you have mine or Michael’s number, give us a call!

I hope all of you are excited about the coming event. We’ve got some awesome music lined up for the worship rally. We also have some awesome ice cream lined up. A very well known ice cream company is giving us a discount. You don’t want to miss it.

I haven’t really checked, but has anyone bought a T-Shirt? I got one! I love it! If you haven’t checked them out, get the link from the website and put your order in so you have a shirt for the tournament! I’m wearing mine to the the worship rally! Woop.

Well..until next time.

We have been asked by several teams if we will have shirts this year, and we’re happy to order shirts - but we can only get them if 100 people order. So if you’d like a shirt post a comment and get in touch with us to place an order.

“If I were in charge of Mile High Stampede, I would…”

Some answers we already received were “…Invite all area youth to the rally, not just the quizzers.” and “make the coaches of the teams quiz during the tournament sometime.”

Quizzing is fun…no really, it is.

Sunday, March 2nd, 2008

Since tournaments are a lot of work and extra-stressful we took a little break and had a fun quizzing practice this last week. Here are some pictures - enjoy!

Check back over the next few weeks for pictures of the tournament. You might see yourself - it could be your 15 minutes of fame…or less, since this is Bible Quizzing after. It’ll only use like 2 or 3 minutes our of your 15.

  • THE MISSION: Fashion a hat using nothing more than TP and Scotch tape.
    THE RESULT: SUCCESS!!
TP Hat… TP Hat, part Deaux…
  • THE MISSION: Create a wig in under two minutes using only ribbon and scotch tape.
THE RESULT: You be the judge…

The After Party

Sunday, February 24th, 2008

Well, MHS has come to a conclusion for 2008. We worked hard to get it done and I think everyone had a great time. Believe it or not, we have already begun planning for 2009. We’ve contacted teams from out-of-state that are already making plans to be here next year.

MHS is for the quizzers. We have gone through the surveys and we know what you want. Unfortunately, we won’t be able to get the cool water slide that someone suggested, but maybe 2010.

Have a great rest of the quiz season. Keep checking the blog, because we’re gonna keep posting throughout the year. Feel free to leave comments and suggestions for next year.

Adios, for now!!

Time and tide wait for no man…

Monday, February 18th, 2008

Well, with a little more than three days to go - things are coming together nicely. We’re working on signs to help you find your sessions with as little aimless wandering as possible (EGD to people “in the know”). While the saying “not all who wander are lost” may be true, in this case it probably isn’t. We’re also working on some additional stuff for everyone to participate in during the tournament while you’re between quizzes. You’re gonna have to wait to find out about that stuff.

The trophies have been ordered and are on the way, we’ve got at least one award to give away, we’re getting together souvenirs to give away (we don’t want to send anyone home empty-handed) - suffice it to say, we’re giving away a lot of cool stuff. You can also let all your peeps at home know that there will be live blogging and video updates throughout the tournament!! Both the kickoff and the Saturday morning devotional service will be available to download as MP3s as fast as technology allows, and you can look forward to lots of pictures being posted so everyone back home can admire your goofy grin and bizarre choice of shirt/tie combo (you know who you are!)

At any rate, time marches on (tide isn’t really an issue at this altitude). But rest assured, we’re fighting the good fight on our end to make sure this is the best Mile High Stampede yet. Tell all your friends, blog it, YouTube it….it’s gonna be awesome.
I’m all out of hackneyed phrases and cliche so…..catch you on the flip side.

Growing BQ Junior Teams

Thursday, February 14th, 2008

Since the last BQ tournament, we have added two new bible quizzers to our junior teams. This is very exciting because both of them are not only new to quizzing, but new to our church! Three of the bible quizzers have befriended our two new ones, told them about bible quizzing, and brought them to our Wednesday night practice! And the best part about it, is that ALL of the bible quizzers have made them feel right at home. They are already learning and quoting scriptures and are even asking me where other scriptures in the Bible are! I am definitely very excited! At MHS, please make Lehi and Alfredo feel at home.

I have another quizzer whose family came to the Lord only about a year ago. She is a wonderful little lady and LOVES to read her Bible. Her mom tells me that she has to make her close her Bible, turn off her light, and go to sleep every night. She is so excited about the Word of God! I have to keep her on track with learning the verses of study because she ends up quoting me something from another book. I’m so excited that I have a quizzer that’s hungry for the Word of God.

When I coached at another church, there were two siblings that joined for the first time while I was there. They always told me they wanted to quit, but they always made it through the year and they always learned more verses than they ever thought they could learn. (Me and the other coach knew how to bribe) ;)

I haven’t been in this very long, but all the quizzers I’ve coached have made a difference in my life. I love all of them and they have a very special place in my heart. I was not a quizzer when I was young (I didn’t come to the Lord until I was 18) so I am always amazed at what they do. They learn scriptures in the midst of homework, when there are other church functions, on the way to tournaments, and some even carry their cards around at school. Quizzers exhibit patience, dedication and commitment, and so many other qualities that many people work a lifetime for. So, thank you to all the quizzers for doing what you do! Without you, we couldn’t hold cool tournaments like MHS! I can’t wait to see everyone here and I hope that your quiz teams grow this year as well.

Identity - What We’re About

Monday, February 11th, 2008

The G

Galatians 2:20 - I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.

A little more than a year ago this month, our youth group spent several weeks choosing a name that we felt represented our collective vision and passion. After praying, seeking the will of God, and lots of great recommendations from all the young people we settled on the name “Identity,” and not just ‘cuz it’s cool. First off, props to Connor G, and all the other “G’s” for the name and logo ideas. Connor has an awesome spirit, and ladies - you’d be lucky to know him.

It seems more than coincidental that the verse we chose as our vision statement would also be one of the verses of study this year. This verse is a foundational concept in Christian life and in quizzing. The idea of sacrifice, laying down your life in order to take it up again, is central to a successful quizzer’s attitude. Not everything in life is easy, or even fun. But sometimes, the most meaningful things come in times of great sacrifice. In these times we find our Identity.

So, in this spirit of ministry and this attitude of sacrifice we would like to encourage every quizzer to find their identity in this year’s material. Don’t be afraid of who God has called you to be.

Coming Soon

Friday, February 8th, 2008

As MHS comes screaming toward us, our days seem to get busier and busier. Regardless of how busy it seems, I am so excited for this event. We have been planning and planning for quite some time and I can’t wait to see the kids’ faces when they walk in. It’s definitely all about the quizzers.

There’s a awesome project in the making to showcase how wonderful quizzing is and how important it can be to young people. We are going to put some finishing touches on the Identity Student Ministries Lounge tomorrow and create a relaxing atmosphere for everyone. Unfortunately, there will be some things we won’t be able to finish, but it’s still going to look great.

The food is going to have a fun twist to it. We are going to take an old time favorite and make it kid friendly and adult friendly. I’m certainly looking forward to that. Food is a great way to fellowship!!

I hope all of ya’ll are preparing for a fun time. Can’t wait to see you!! Happy Friday!!
